About Ann

Sharing the Vision…..

During my years of working with people who have dementia I constantly  found myself striving to find new and more effective ways of providing opportunities for them to live a life with dignity.  I was convinced that even though the dreaded disease of Alzheimer’s or some other form of dementia may erode cognitive functioning there remained an inner spirit, very much alive and needing to be nourished.  By focusing on that inner spirit (” the thing that keeps us going”), people can blossom more than we realize.

I have spent the past 20+ years working in the field of gerontology….from the active and healthy to the frail and dying.  For several years I was Wellness Coordinator for the Senior Network program of  St. Elizabeth Medical Center in Dayton, Ohio.  When  the hospital closed  I began working in long-term care facilities, eventually finding my specialty:   working with people who have dementia, their families and other caregivers.    I am a Nationally Certified Director of Activities and a Certified Dementia Practitioner.

Never ceasing to explore new approaches and develop programs designed to encourage creativity and self-worth I founded Dementia with Dignity.  I saw the far-reaching impact of the disease, and the daily struggles of not only the  individual but for their loved ones as well and recognized the need for  education and support.   Through proven   creative and innovative approaches I  lead caregivers on a path to successful, loving care that enhances the dignity of those directly impacted with Alzheimer’s and other forms of dementia.

At Dementia With Dignity we offer a  wide range of programs designed for caregivers.  These programs can be scheduled through long term care facitilies, senior centers and other public venues.  Individuals can also receive personal consulting to work with their more specific needs.

In addition to my work through Dementia with Dignity,  I   currently volunteer with the local Alzheimer’s Association as a public speaker and as a support group facilitator.
